Best Places to Elope in Zion National Park
There’s a big difference between traveling to Zion once… and truly knowing it.
I’ve lived near Zion National Park for the past 10 years. I’ve explored its trails, climbed in slot canyons, and have studied how she changes with the seasons. I have become an expert on how light moves through this park hour by hour!
75 % of my elopements each year take place right here in Zion National Park, which means when I help couples choose a ceremony location, I’m not guessing.I consider myself to be an expert on Zion elopement locations. I’ve found which spots feel intimate. I know which areas get crowded (and exactly when). I will help you build timelines around shuttle schedules, summer heat, flash flood season, and making sure we get that red rock golden hour.
Zion isn’t just a pretty backdrop. It’s an incredible place that I hope everyone will be able to experience in their lifetime.
The towering red cliffs. The quiet riverbanks. The dramatic overlooks that make you feel like a tiny human in the best way! If you’re dreaming of an adventurous, meaningful wedding day surrounded by nature, Zion offers some of the most unforgettable elopement locations in the Southwest!
Let me prove it to you!
In this guide, I’ll walk you through the best locations to elope in Zion National Park, plus important things you need to know before planning your day.
Why Elope in Zion National Park?

Every year, nearly 5 million visitors travel from all over the world to experience Zion National Park. It’s consistently ranked as one of the most visited national parks in the United States and once you step inside the canyon, it’s easy to understand why.
Iconic Red Rock Views that are Easily Recognizable
Towering sandstone cliffs like Angels Landing , the narrow canyon walls, the winding Virgin River. These iconic views make it so when you see a photo taken here, you instantly know it’s Zion National Park. The scale is dramatic. The colors are unreal And the views give you goosebumps in a way that’s hard to put into words until you’re standing there.
One of the reasons I love guiding couples here is how accessible everything is. Zion is relatively compact compared to many other national parks, which means you can experience multiple landscapes and trails in one day without spending hours driving between them.
But what really makes Zion special for an elopement is the experience beyond the ceremony.
Turn Your Elopement Into a Full Adventure Experience

Zion is an adventure town!
You can:
- Go horseback riding through red rock terrain
- Take an off-road adventure through nearby sand dunes
- Hike to an epic overlook at sunrise
- Cruise around Springdale on e-bikes (one of my personal favorites)
- Plan a private helicopter landing for your vows
- Or even celebrate with a hot air balloon ride over the desert
Your elopement day doesn’t have to be just a ceremony and photos. It can be an entire experience, this is one thing I try and help all of my couples understand. Your wedding day is supposed to be the BEST day of your ENITRE LIVES! Zion is a great place to start an incredible chapter together. And that’s why so many couples choose Zion
Important Things to Know Before Planning Your Zion Elopement

Planning an elopement in Zion National Park is incredibly exciting, but there are a few logistics you need to understand before choosing your ceremony location and the rest of your elopement. Chances are you chose to elope because you wanted to avoid “stress” as much as possible. Here are a few things to note to ensure for a smooth sailing elopement day in Zion.
Zion National Park Elopement Permits
If you plan to have your ceremony inside Zion National Park, you will need a Special Use Permit issued by the park.
- Ceremonies require a permit.
- You must apply with an online application and the cost is $100 USD.
- There are 5 designated ceremony locations.
- Guest counts are limited depending on the site.
- Processing times can vary, sadly, national park staffing has been reduced so it’s best to apply as early as possible once you have your date picked out.

Zion Shuttle Schedules & Park Access

Zion operates a mandatory shuttle system most of the year.
Shuttle season runs roughly from March through November.
- First shuttle: About 7:00 a.m. during most of the spring, summer, and fall season.
- Last shuttle: Ranges from 5:00 p.m. – 7:15 p.m. depending on the date within that season.
The shuttle runs frequently, with buses arriving roughly every 5–10 minutes in Zion Canyon and about 10–15 minutes in Springdale.
Private vehicles are restricted in the main canyon during peak season.
Shuttle timing impacts elopement timelines.
Current Shuttle System in Zion National Park
This is why hiring a photographer who also guides your planning is so important. I know the shuttle system inside and out, and I know all the incredible spots where we don’t even need to use the shuttles. I help make sure your elopement flows smoothly, reduce your stress, and help to give you access to the most stunning locations Zion has to offer.
The Best Zion Elopement Locations “Inside” the Park
Before you choose a spot, it’s important to know that only specific areas in Zion National Park are permitted for ceremonies with a Special Use Permit. You cannot “legally” elope just anywhere inside the park boundaries.
Here are the approved ceremony locations, how many people they allow (including you and your vendors), and whether a shuttle is typically required during shuttle season:
1. Temple of Sinawava (best overall view)

- Max guests: 35 (including couple + vendors)
- Shuttle required?
- Yes– during shuttle season (March–Nov) because the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive is closed to private vehicles.
- Outside of shuttle months, you may be able to enter by vehicle early in the morning
- Why couples love it:
In my professional opinion it is the most aesthetic spot for a ceremony of those listed. It’s tucked at the end of the scenic drive with towering canyon walls all around. In my experience, the scale and experience here are unmatched, making it a favorite for couples who want dramatic scale for their ceremony and photos.
2. Menu Falls

- Max guests: 10, it’s very small. Waterfall may or may not be present.
- Shuttle required?
- Usually no– access by vehicle is permitted here depending on road closures and permit specifics, but always check current regulations ,this spot can often be reached without taking the shuttle, would be good for E-bikes.
- Why couples love it:
A small, peaceful spot with a gentle waterfall backdrop ideal for tiny, intimate elopements with just the bridegroom, officiant, and photographer , or micro ceremonies where the focus is on quiet moments and close connection.
3. Zion Lodge Lawn

- Max guests: 75
- Shuttle required?
- Yes-during shuttle season, because the scenic drive past the Visitor Center is closed to private vehicles most of the year.
- This is great if you are staying at Zion Lodge overnight- guests can drive in if they have lodge reservations.
- Why couples love it:
This is one of the more “accessible” classic ceremony lawns it is shaded by cottonwoods and open enough for a slightly larger group. It is typically pretty busy, and doesn’t offer a lot of privacy.
4. Nature Center North Lawn
- Max guests: 50
- Shuttle required?
- No – this area has direct parking and does not require shuttle access, even when the Zion Canyon shuttle is operating.
- What’s special:
Available only from November through early April, this spot feels more open and traditional ceremony‑like. It is great if you want a place where there are chairs and you need easy access for certain guests.
5. South Campground Amphitheater ( As Of FEB 2026 it is under construction so you cannot reserve)

- Max guests: 100
- Shuttle required?
- No, close to visitors center and has its own parking lot.
- Why couples choose it:
The biggest official ceremony area in the park, with natural bench seating (aka amphitheater) and easy access to other parts of the canyon a good choice if you do want to include a slightly larger group.
6. Timber Creek Overlook (Kolob Canyons Area)

- Max guests: 20, plus up to four cars allowed at the overlook parking area.
- Shuttle required?
- No -this is in the Kolob Canyons section of Zion, outside the main scenic drive shuttle system.
- Why couples love it:
A hidden gem with expansive views and fewer crowds, it’s far quieter than the main canyon spots. If privacy and epic views is important to you then this location is worth serious consideration. - This would be my second choice!
The Best Zion Elopement Locations “Outside” the Park

Not every couple wants to be restricted by park permits, guest limits, or having to deal with the shuttle schedules. This is where the magic of off-park ceremony locations comes to play. As someone who has lived and adventured in the Southwest for over 10 years, I know all the hidden gems that give couples stunning views, privacy, and freedom. It’s basically a win-win.
Many of these locations are on BLM land, private properties, or unique lodgings. This means you can have your dream ceremony exactly how you want it, while still taking photos in the park after the ceremony.
BLM & Public Lands
- Why it’s special: Public lands often allow more freedom , no shuttles, fewer crowds, and flexible timing.
- Expert tip: I know which areas are legally okay for ceremonies, which ones require permits, and which ones make for breathtaking backdrops. This is why you hire a local expert to get access to these “hidden gems.”
- Photo strategy: These locations work beautifully for intimate elopements and can seamlessly be paired with Zion photography after the ceremony.
Private Airbnb & Vacation Rentals with Views
- This is a secret weapon: There are some incredible Airbnbs have incredible canyon, cliff, or desert views which is perfect for intimate ceremonies. This is a more relaxed vibe!
- Access tips: Not all allow events, so I guide couples to ones that do.
- Photo opportunities: Many are within 15–30 minutes of Zion, so we can still hop into the park for iconic photos after the ceremony.
Unique Lodging with venue options

- Why couples love it: Unique accommodations like yurts, open-air pavilions, and desert landscapes make it perfect for combining ceremony + overnight stays. Some places allow ceremonies if you book your accommodations through them.
- Guest counts: Can accommodate small to medium-sized elopements.
- Extras: Many couples love the idea of staying on-site, then exploring Zion or nearby canyons for their portraits. Its convenient to have it a lot of the elopement day happen in one area!
Snow Canyon State Park (Utah)

- Why it’s amazing: Dramatic red and white sandstone cliffs, lava tubes, and sweeping desert views all without the crowds of Zion. It’s a smaller state park, but the views are EPIC.
- Permits: Required for Ceremonies, and professional photos of any kind.
- Guest counts: Flexible depending on permit type.
- Shuttle: No shuttle, drive your own private vehicles in.

Pro Tip
Many couples combine “off-park” ceremonies with “in-park” photos. This allows them to legally marry in a private, breathtaking spot while still capturing iconic Zion cliffs, rivers, and overlooks in their gallery. That’s where I come in, I will help plant your entire elopement day so everything flows perfectly and you get exactly what you want without having to compromise.
Which Zion Elopement Location is Right for You?

Choosing the perfect elopement spot in or around Zion depends on a few key things: how much privacy do you want, how many people are you bringing, and what the type of adventure do you want to have.
- Privacy vs. accessibility: Some spots are tucked away, giving you complete seclusion, while others are easier to access and others are closer to park amenities.
- Guest count: The number of people you plan to include can influence whether an on-park or off-park location works best.
- Views & scenery: Do you dream of towering cliffs, winding rivers, desert panoramas, or a mix of landscapes? The right location will enhance your photos and the overall feel of your day.
- Adventure & logistics: Hiking, sunrise or sunset timing, shuttle schedules, and parking all play a role in planning your ceremony and photos.
- The most important thing is to choose a location that feels right for you and one that aligns with your vision.
As your elopement photographer- I help you weigh these factors, navigate the logistics, and create a seamless, stress-free day so you can focus on the experience itself.
